So, your interested in landscaping or re-landscaping your yard...
There are a number of factors that come into play when you decide you want to landscape or re-landscape your home; it is important that you weight each of these factors and take into consideration the amount of work and money involved.
The first thing you need to decide is whether you want to do it yourself or pay a contractor/landscape company to do the work for you. If you are budget minded or simply want the pleasure of doing it yourself, which I recommend, then go contractor-less and break out the shovel and prepare to get dirty. If getting dirty doesn't sound like fun to you then I would recommend hiring a contractor; shop around and compare services to get the best deal and to make sure they share the same vision of your yard.
If your not sure where to start with your landscaping then please use our Landscaping Resources at the right side of this page, these guides will help you decide whats important and show you how to accomplish the task at hand.
How complex you get with your landscaping will depend on your budget, if you have a large budget you can get the pond you have always wanted; if your not interested in spending a small fortune on landscaping consider these cost saving tips:
- Whenever possible, do the work yourself, paying contractors gets expensive fast.
- Do trash removal, clean-up and other similar tasks yourself to cut costs. There is no reason to pay someone else for something you can do easily.
- Consider using vegetables such as Tomatoes, brightly-colored peppers, pumpkins, etc. to liven up your garden or landscaping areas instead of high priced flowers. You will also benefit from being able to use your home-grown vegetables instead of buying them.
- If your looking for shrubbery and ground cover consider using herbs like thyme, rosemary, parsley and sage. Not only are these herbs much cheaper then shrubs but you get the added benefit of not having to buy them.
